How Local Conditions Affect a Ford

Hot summers, rough pavement and standing water each put their own load on a Ford's brakes, steering and exhaust.

  • Long hot days and stop-and-go traffic heat the brakes. Pads that run too hot can glaze, and a glazed pad grips the rotor less, so the truck takes longer to stop.
  • Heat also works the A/C hard. The condenser has to shed heat into hot air, and weak cooling at idle is one reason owners come in for air conditioning service.
  • Potholes hit tie rod ends and ball joints. A hard hit can shift the steering angles, and the tires then wear unevenly.
  • Standing water splashes exhaust pipes and hangers. Steel that stays wet rusts, and rusted seams or hangers can leak or let the pipe rattle.

Frequently asked questions

Which areas do you serve for Ford work?

We work on Fords at our two shops in Houston and Stafford. Pick the shop closer to you and bring your vehicle there.

Which other makes do you work on?

Alongside Ford, we work most on Chevrolet, GMC, Toyota, Honda and Jeep. If you want to see all of them, see the full list of makes we service.

Why does my A/C blow warm when I'm stopped in traffic?

At a stop there's no road air moving through the condenser, so the cooling fan has to pull air across it. If that fan runs slow or debris clogs the condenser fins, the refrigerant can't shed its heat, and the vents blow warmer. Low refrigerant can cause the same thing, so it takes an inspection to tell which one it is.

Why does my steering wheel shake when I brake?

When a rotor's thickness turns uneven, the pads grab and release it with each turn of the wheel, and you feel that pulse through the steering. A steering wheel that shakes under braking most often points to warped rotors. Schedule an inspection soon and avoid hard braking until it's checked.

What should I watch for after hitting a deep pothole?

A hard hit can bend a tie rod or knock the wheel angles out of spec. You may notice the truck wandering in its lane, or the wheel no longer centered when you're going straight. Uneven wear on the inside or outside edge of a front tire is another clue. Any of those can come from other faults, so get the front end looked at before you replace tires.

Can I bring my Ford here for scheduled maintenance?

Among the services we offer are scheduled maintenance and pickup truck repair for Ford trucks. The owner's manual for your Ford sets the service intervals by mileage and time, so check it to see what's due before you come in.
